HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party, while reiterating its demand for resignation of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy following his admission in the Assembly that his family has indeed held 310 acres of assigned lands in Kapada district, on Saturday wanted him to pay compensation to the Government. At a press conference here, D. Narendra Kumar, MLA, and W. Ramayya, party SC Cell president, asserted that Congress MLAs and others, who were speaking in support of Dr. Reddy, had no locus standi because of the Chief Minister's admission of the family possessing the land.
`Depriving Dalits'
Mr. Kumar stated that this was a clear example of how Dr. Reddy had deprived Dalits of what was given to them and curtailed their economic and social progress for three decades. Mr. Ramayya said that Dr. Reddy should pay compensation to the Government treasury, which could be used by the Social Welfare Department for the benefit of SC students in hostels. He cited the plight of students who were being denied food, clothing and other facilities.
Blame game
Mr. Narendra maintained that it was becoming increasingly difficult for Dr. Reddy to wriggle out of the situation and hence the ruling party was launching a smear campaign against those TDP leaders who were criticising him. He said the party would be unfazed by such attempts. The MLA urged officials not to succumb to pressure and generate false land documents.
