Congress MLA presents farmer whose lands were `grabbed'

HYDERABAD: Congress MLA G. Chinna Reddy has charged Telugu Desam Legislature Party Deputy Leader N. Janardhan Reddy and his relatives with grabbing land belonging to poor farmers.

Dr. Chinna Reddy presented before the media, a poor farmer, Parvathamma of Nagunuru village in Mahabubnagar district along with her children here on Saturday.

16 acres

Parvathamma and her family members charged Dr. Janardhan Reddy's relatives with illegally registering 16 acres of their land on their names while they were still holding the pattas.

Their protests were being met with police cases and harassment. Demanding justice, they said they would be forced to commit suicide if the Government did not come to their rescue.

Dr. Chinna Reddy said the TDLP deputy leader had no moral right to criticise others having grabbed the land of poor farmers.

Referring to Dr. Janardhan Reddy's tirade against Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said the latter had made a supreme sacrifice by handing over assigned lands in his estate to the Government.

CLP criticises

Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Whips S. Udaya Bhanu and D. Sridhar Babu, in a statement said the Opposition, mainly the TDP, had a hidden agenda to stall land distribution to the Dalit poor in the State. The Government had so far distributed nearly three lakh acres to the poor in the last two-and-a-half years.

The Opposition was not interested in the welfare of Dalits and hence, it was demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister.
