A precious life may be lost: Fernandes

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The former Janata Dal (United) president George Fernandes on Saturday drew the West Bengal Government's attention to the hunger strike undertaken by Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee on the Singur car plant issue.

Precious life

In a statement, he said: ``a precious life is going to be snuffed out if the designs of the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) succeed in pushing Mamata's fast unto death, which is now on its 13th day, for another couple of days.''

Sacrifice

Mr Fernandes said the West Bengal Government should realise that it was not the Tata's `baby car' but the sacrifice of Ms. Banerjee (for farmers) that would create jobs.

Referring to an ASSOCHAM's recently released document on India's Green Revolution, Mr Fernandes said it were the farmers who created revolution both, for the industry as well as agriculture and they cannot be sacrificed.
