Ajay, Aditi win

MUMBAI: Ajay Jayaram and Aditi Mutatkar, both representing Petroleum, won their first senior national singles titles by stunning Anand Pawar and Trupti Murgunde respectively on the concluding day of the 5th USV all-India major ranking badminton tournament here on Saturday.

Fourth seed Jayaram defeated third seed Pawar 21-15, 21-15 in the men's singles final, while second seed Aditi beat number one Trupti 21-18, 14-21, 21-11 for the women's crown in the USV India Ltd-sponsored tournament. The two champions earned Rs 42,500 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

The results: Finals: Men's singles: 4-Ajay Jayaram (Petroleum) bt 3-Anand Pawar (AI) 21-15, 21-15. Women's singles: 2-Aditi Mutatkar (Mah) bt 1-Trupti Murgunde (Pet) 21-18, 14-21, 21-13. Men's doubles: 1-Sanave Thomas (Ker)/Roopesh Kumar (Pet) bt Marcos Bristow (Pet)/Jaison Xavier (Ker) 21-15, 21-11. Women's doubles: 1-Aparna Balan (Ker)/Krishna Deka Raja (Asm) bt 2- Deepthi Shalini/Deepthi Priyadarshini (AP). — Special Correspondent
