Bangalore: Presidency School struck a dominant note against BGS International Residential School in a Parle Cup under-17 inter-school cricket tournament quarterfinal, which commenced here on Saturday. Presidency, powered by Prithvi Ramesh's 101, scored 296 for nine in its stipulated 55-over first innings and later in the day, restricted BGS to 99 for eight with Jaggesh Sharma grabbing five wickets.
The scores (quarterfinals): Presidency School 296 for nine in 55 overs (Prithvi Ramesh 101, Naresh Reddy 77) vs. BGS International Res. School 99 for eight in 45 overs (Jaggesh Sharma five for 25). VVS Sardar Patel School 168 in 54.3 overs (K.V. Siddarth 75) vs. FAPS 159 in 50.1 overs (Abhijith 52). St. Joseph's Boys' HS 135 in 54.4 overs (Ripunjay 41, Ankit Sharma four for 22) and 11 for no loss in 3 overs vs. Bishop Cotton Boys' School 139 in 49.3 overs. Big win for ICICI Bank
ICICI Bank scored an eight-wicket win over GEPC in a Bangalore Sports Club corporate crick-eight tournament match here on Saturday. GEPC scored 54 for five in eight overs and ICICI won in 4.1 overs. The scores: GEPC 54 for five in eight overs lost to ICICI Bank 55 for no loss in 4.1 overs; Maloo Constructions 110 for eight in eight overs (Sushil 40) bt HP 103 for five in eight overs.
President's XI hits 178
President's XI scored 178 for seven in its stipulated 75-over first innings against Tumkur Zone in the KSCA under-13 inter-zonal tournament final that commenced here on Saturday. At close, Tumkur mustered 47 for three in 24 overs. The scores (final): President's XI 178 for seven in 75 overs (K.N. Bharath 45 n.o., Shreyas Gopal 44, H. Suresh four for 36) vs. Tumkur Zone 47 for three in 24 overs.
State short-course swimming
The Karnataka Swimming Association will conduct the State short-course swimming and water-polo championships at the Basavanagudi Swimming Pool here from Dec. 27 to 29. The championship will also serve as the trials to select the State team to compete in the South Zone aquatic championships at Thiruvananthapuram from Jan. 26 to 28.
Easy win for BEML
At Mysore, BEML (Mysore), helped by some good batting by P. Ashok (63), registered a 109-run win over RBI, Mysore, in the corporate cricket tournament conducted by Infosys, Mysore, here on Saturday. The scores: BEML (Mysore) 198 for six in 25 overs (P. Ashok 63) bt RBI (Mysore) 89 for nine in 25 overs; Software Padigrams (Mysore) 162 for four in 25 overs (K.C. Raju 73 not out, Prasanth 44 not out) bt WIPRO (Mysore) 113 in 18.1 overs (K.C. Raju three for 21).
SDM triumphs
At Udupi , SDM College, Ujire, emerged champion of the Mangalore University inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for women held at the MSRS College grounds at Shirva near Udupi on Saturday. The results: Final: SDM Ujire bt MSRS Shirva 25-16, 25-9, 25-20; semifinal: MSRS bt S.V. Karkala 20-25, 25-13, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13, SDM bt Besent, Mangalore 25-8, 25-20, 27-7.
