INDORE: Samaresh Jung rallied brilliantly firing six plus-10 scores in the final to beat Ronak Pandit by 0.5 points to win the gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol event, in the 50th National shooting championship at the Reoti Ranges near here on Saturday. Jung, who won 50m free pistol gold on Friday, shot two 10.9s to rattle the opposition and jump from sixth position to the top of the podium. "I was determined to win the gold despite qualifying sixth in the final,'' said Jung, who was three shots behind the joint leaders, Ronak Pandit and Vivek Singh. Going into the final with a total of 574, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) shooter opened with 9.9 but a 10.9 on his third shot really opened up the event. Another 10.7 had Jung closing in the gap before he took a momentary lead after the seventh shot. Pandit, who made it to the final with 577, was well in contention but an 8.5 on his fifth shot put paid to his dream of winning his first National title. With one shot to go, Pandit was a mere 0.3 points ahead of Jung. He shot 10.1 but a maximum 10.9 from Jung's pistol closed the issue. He totaled 676.6 against 676.1 of Pandit. Vivek Singh won the bronze medal with a total of 675.8. Vivek, however, led Indian Airlines to the team title, a good 12 points ahead of Navy.
