CHENNAI: The State Q Branch CID, which is investigating the case relating to the seizure of boosters near Manamadurai on November 30, says it expects to get more information regarding the transaction when two persons who have been granted police custody are interrogated. "We have to go beyond the network", a senior State police officer told The Hindu on Saturday. What deepens the mystery is the strong police suspicion that the consignment was on its way to Sri Lanka, and the linking of Ibrahim Kutty of Kozhikode with the explosives components. The special unit has been granted three days custody of Vinod Kumar of Madurai and Mydeen of Irumeni village, two of the four persons arrested in the case. A vehicle carrying the boosters, packed in 30 boxes, dashed against a tree and overturned at Othakadai near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district. The police seized the components. The officer said the boosters were manufactured in Andhra Pradesh. There was no information about Mr. Kutty for whom a hunt was on. An explosives dealer, he was stated to be running some shops. His background needed to be probed. "We will have to pursue the case further." The local police, which investigated the case, had visited Andhra Pradesh before the case was handed over to the Q Branch CID. If necessary, the special unit team would visit Kerala and Andhra Pradesh after the interrogation of the two persons. Given the nature of the case and the links, the police would investigate all angles.
