MANGALORE: Mangalore University has planned to introduce an undergraduate course in "security and detective sciences", and two postgraduate courses in "sales and marketing", and "human resource development", according to sources in the university. The regulations and syllabi of the courses are likely to be placed before the meeting of the academic council on December 19 for its approval, sources told The Hindu . They were need-based and employment-oriented courses, and were rare in universities in the State, the sources said. They said that the university had constituted an expert committee to look into the proposal of starting a three-year degree course in security and detective sciences. The committee had recommended that it could be offered as a Bachelor of Arts course. The committee had also prepared the syllabi, which was approved by the faculty of arts. The course dealt with criminology, history and development of investigation, security management and investigation, civil and criminal law, and anatomy (non-medical). The course would also cover areas such as social problem and crime, criminal psychology, investigative methods and techniques, and geography of India, the sources said. A degree in this subject could help the graduates to find jobs in detective and security agencies, and in Police Department.
