Award for James Paul

THRISSUR: Playwright James Paul has been selected for the G. Sankara Pillai Memorial Theatre Award. The award, instituted by the G. Sankara Pillai Memorial Drama Study Centre, carries a purse of Rs.3,000, a citation and a statuette. The award will be presented at a function here on January 1.

Gold missing

THRISSUR: Gold ornaments estimated at Rs.6 lakh were reported missing from Thrippekkulam Siva Temple at Mala, near here, on Saturday, said the police.

Temple authorities said a `golaka' in gold (covering for the idol) was also missing. A few tiles on the roof of the temple were found removed. The chief priest found a brass door inside the temple broken open, said the police. Forensic experts examined the place. - Staff Reporter

Falls to death

THRISSUR: One person died and another was injured after they fell from the third floor of a building under construction here on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Yogesh, 26, son of Sonu of New Colony, Sulkapara, West Bengal. The incident occurred at 11.30 a.m., said the police. Yogesh was rushed to a hospital, but his life could not be saved. He died around 1.30 p.m. The injured, Manik, also from West Bengal, was admitted to hospital. - Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Cardiologist G. Vijayaraghavan has said that while at the national-level people aged between 60 and 70 developed cardiac problems, in Kerala the average age group with such problems were those between 40 and 50. He was delivering a talk on `heart' at a function organised here as part of the 12th annual function of the Puthoor Gopalakrishnan Endowment. - Staff Reporter

Mullaperiyar: Minister leaves for talks

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran left for New Delhi from the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Saturday to participate in the Mullaperiyar talks convened by Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz on Monday. Mr. Premachandran will hold discussions with top officials and experts of the State at the Kerala House in New Delhi on Sunday. — Special Correspondent

Salary disbursement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government will disburse the salary for the current month to its staff from December 20 to 22 on account of Christmas. Apart from Government employees, it will benefit teachers and aided school, college and polytechnic staff. The pension to the service pensioners for January will also be disbursed from December 20. — Special Correspondent
