Heavy rush at Sabarimala

PATHANAMTHITTA: The holy hillock of Sabarimala witnessed a heavy rush of pilgrims on Saturday.

The queue of devotees extended beyond Marakkoottom, two kilometres away from the Sannidhanam, on Saturday evening. Many pilgrims complained that they had to wait for hours on the crowded trekking path for the holy darshan. The fireplace, `aazhi,' in front of the Pathinettampady at the Lower Thirumuttom of the Ayyappa temple was overloaded, forcing pilgrims to throw the coconut outside the flaming Aazhi.The aazhi extended to the surrounding areas of the iron-grilled fireplace, posing danger to pilgrims standing in the queue to climb the holy steps.
