Bill to check cyber crimes introduced

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Information Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2006, to check cyber crimes was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Friday by Union Minister of State for Communication Shakeel Ahmed. The crimes covered included publication of sexually explicit material, video voyeurism, breach of confidentiality, leakage of data by intermediaries, e-commerce frauds and identity theft.

The amendment to the Information Technology Act of 2000 has been necessitated by the new forms of crime that have emerged in the wake of the Internet revolution. The Bill seeks to amend the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Evidence Act and the Code of Criminal Procedure to address the crimes.
