KOCHI: It was a walk down memory lane for many who turned up at the Ernakulam Government Maharaja's College here on Saturday morning. Students of the 1956 Pre-University batch of the college shared their memories at a get-together. Senior journalist K.M. Roy, who took the initiative for the get-together, said: "Fifty years was a long period. We always wanted to meet and share the memories of our campus days." Those who turned up for the meet included writer Vaisakhan; former Chief Engineer Santha Mathew, and former Director of Education K.V. Madanan. The illustrious batch had the credit of attending lectures given by persons like O.N.V. Kurup, M.K. Sanu, and Balakrishnan Nair. Many recalled the rich and glorious past of Maharaja's College on the occasion. For Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, Saturday was special in a different way. While the members of the 1956 batch exchanged their memories, Dr. Isaac took up the role of a teacher on the campus. Inside a classroom packed with students, the Finance Minister delivered a lecture on the social progress achieved by the Kerala society. Besides students of Maharaja's College, the lecture was keenly heard by graduates from Union Christian College, Aluva; Sree Sankara College, Kalady; and St. Paul's College, Kalamassery.
