Dismissed cop held

NEW DELHI: A dismissed Delhi Police constable who was allegedly running an extortion racket has been arrested on Vikas Marg in East Delhi.

The accused, Raj Kumar, was arrested following a complaint by a resident of Ghaziabad, Gulam Sarvar, that he was demanding Rs.1 lakh from him. The accused had picked up the victim from East Delhi and forced him to sign a paper accepting that heroin had been recovered from his possession, the police said.

Raj Kumar had joined the Delhi police on deputation as a constable in 1985 and was absorbed in the force five years later. In 1997, he was dismissed following disciplinary action.

Four arrested

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of four school dropouts, the East Delhi police claim to have busted a gang allegedly involved in several cases of auto thefts.

Four vehicles including two cars have been recovered and seven cases of auto thefts and chain snatching worked out with the arrest, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid on Loni Road at Shahdara and two young men on a motorcycle were arrested. Similarly, two more arrests were made at New Seemapuri in East Delhi.

The accused -- Sonu, Parveen, Ravinder and Pawan -- were allegedly lured into crime as they wanted to lead a lavish life.

Woman dies

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman working at a beauty parlour died under mysterious circumstances at Maurice Nagar in North Delhi on Friday night. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to the police, Lucy left the beauty parlour around 8 p.m. on Friday with a 38-year-old man, Ajay Luthra, in a car. The two had dinner together and later took drinks as well, the police said.

Later Lucy fell unconscious and Ajay took her to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
