Lokayukta seeks report from Police Commissioner

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde has asked Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao to submit a report on the action against employers of pizza outlets who allegedly force their boys to deliver pizzas on time regardless of the city's heavy traffic.

Mr. Hegde has taken this action following a newspaper report. It also mentioned about the risks taken by delivery boys to reach the destination in time and the utter disregard of pizza shop owners towards the life and safety of delivery boys.

In a letter, Mr. Hegde said the delivery boys had to rush through heavy traffic in a manner that would not only endanger their own lives but also that of others.

In another letter to the Labour Commissioner, Mr. Hegde said the act of the employers was an unfair trade practice. This was punishable under Section 25 (T) and 25 (U) of Industrial Disputes Act. He asked him to submit a report on the action taken to prosecute such employers.
