BANGALORE: It was the right setting for a parade of its kind. Fifty vintage and classic cars and 10 motorcycles shone brightly in the cold morning light at Taj West End here on Sunday. The parade "Chalo Karnataka - Heritage to New Age" was organised by Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club. It was arranged to commemorate the State's achievements since its unification 50 years ago. Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism, Kannada and Culture, I.M. Vittalamurthy said that the parade should be made an annual event, as this would give a fillip to the tourism sector. "Such rallies and parades could be used as platforms to showcase the rich culture and heritage of the State," he said. The 1928 Lanchester, formerly owned by freedom fighter Motilal Nehru, was the highlight of the parade. Over 40 proud car owners drove their prized possessions through the streets of the city. The cars being showcased included Delag, Jaguar, Mercedes, Austin, Ford, Desoto, Dodge and Chevrolet. The parade was flagged off by Director-General of Police, Corps of Detectives, K.R. Srinivasan.
