State-level youth festival at Anegod from December 27

The event is organised by the Youth Services Department and Davangere Zilla Panchayat


  • Over 1,000 youth are expected to take part in the three-day event
  • Competitions will be held for ten events

    DAVANGERE: Over 1,000 youth from all over the State are expected to take part in the three-day State-level youth festival to be held in Anegod, about 12 km from here, from December 27. The event is organised by the State Youth Services Department and Davangere Zilla Panchayat.

    Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, zilla panchayat president H.B. Manjanna, Standing Committee chairman Y. Ramappa and Chief Executive Officer Nijalingappa said a village like campus, Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Grama, was being set up on 18 acres of land near Anegod for event. Over 150 tents would be set up for men to stay for three days and women participants would be accommodated at the Junior College and community hall. A pandal measuring 250 ft X180 ft is also being erected.

    Four committees have been formed to organise the event.

    A team of doctors will be stationed on the campus and KSRTC would run special buses from Davangere to Anegod on all the three days.

    Ten events including folk dance, folk music, classical vocal solo (Carnatic), classical vocal solo (Hindustani), harmonium, classical dance (Manipuri, Odissi, Kathak, Kuchupudi, Bharatanatyam) and elocution will be held.

    Mr. Nijalingappa said 22 judges from different parts of the State have been selected to award prizes for best performers.

    The festival is being organised at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh. The Youth Services Department has given Rs. 2 lakh, all the gram panchayats will contribute up to Rs. 3,000 each and the zilla panchayat will contribute over Rs. 3 lakh.

    Taralabalu Jagadguru Sri Shivakumar Swamy will inaugurate the event.

    S.A. Ravindranath, Minister for Sugar and Rural Water Supply and also Davangere district in-charge Minister, will preside over the function on all the three days.

    Those who secured awards at the national youth festival from out State will be honoured on the occasion by S.S. Mallikarjun, former Minister for Sports and Youth Services.
