KOCHI: The United Democratic Front (UDF) liaison committee, meeting here on Monday, is expected to finalise strategies against the Left Democratic Front Government, which, according to the Opposition front, was fast losing people's goodwill because of misgovernance and infighting in the CPI(M). The meeting would review the UDF performance in the recent Thiruvambadi byelection. UDF sources said the front, though it had narrowly missed Thiruvambadi, was upbeat about the result because of the negligible margin of victory for the LDF. However, UDF leaders would examine why the front lost the last lap despite having had a clear lead in the last phase of the campaign, the source said. The liaison committee may also discuss the `Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factor' if it is raised by the constituent parties other than the Congress. To the Congress, according to one leader who is attending Monday's meeting, it is a "closed chapter." He pointed out that both Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy had publicly stated that there was no room for the NCP in the UDF. The Congress would be represented by Mr. Chandy, Mr. Chennithala, P.P. Thankachan, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, C.V. Padmarajan and M.M. Hassan. The Indian Union Muslim League would be represented E. Ahamed, P.K. Kunhalikkutty, E.T. Mohammed Basheer and M.K. Muneer. K.M. Mani, K.R. Gouri, M.V. Raghavan and R. Balakrishna Pillai would also participate.
