ANANTAPUR: District Collector D. Kadmiel said on Sunday that 1,15,141 houses were sanctioned in the district under Indiramma scheme. Of them, 56,487 were grounded including 11,229 completed houses. Speaking during a videoconference conducted from Hyderabad by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with Collectors, Mr. Kadmiel informed Dr. Reddy that another 10,927 houses were sanctioned under the scheme in urban areas and 720 of them were grounded. Of the Indiramma houses in rural areas, basements were completed for 34,195 houses and another 11,063 had reached roof-level. The remaining houses would be grounded by the month-end, he said. The Chief Minister directed the Collectors to form village committee to monitor the progress of houses. He cautioned officials against lethargy and warned of action against those who would fail to ground the sanctioned houses by the month-end. On the second phase of Indiramma, Dr. Reddy said selection of villages and beneficiaries, formation of village committees and third party verification should be completed from February 1 to March 31, 2007. Implementation of the second phase should commence from April 1.

Old age, widow and disability pensions were being paid through passbook system in the district from December 1.
