CHENNAI : Police arrested three key accused here on Sunday in connection with the Ayodhya mandapam attack case in West Mambalam on December 8.

Unidentified miscreants hurled two bottles filled with petrol and acid at the mandapam in which the front portion of the premises was damaged.

Before fleeing from the spot, the gang also attacked two persons and escaped in an autorickshaw.

The police had formed special teams to nab the accused.

The names of the arrested were given as `Auto' Kumaran, Umapathi and Viji, all belonging to Royapettah. Based on their confession, the police seized the autorickshaw used by the gang.

After a case of attempt to murder, trespass and damage to property was registered, the police remanded them to judicial custody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (T. Nagar) Baskaran said the autorickshaw used for the operation was at a workshop in Ashok Nagar for tinkering work.

Further investigation in the case is on.
