GUNTUR: Guntur Mayor Kanna Nagaraju will lead a team of 18 delegates for a three-day field tour to Suryapet and Hyderabad. Suryapet municipality has become a model for segregation of solid waste comprising all kinds of garbage and at a time when the Guntur Municipal Corporation was embarking on proper segregation of 350 mt. of garbage everyday. The APUSP has sponsored the trip. The Mayor told reporters that the 18-member team comprising Mayor, Deputy Mayor, floor leaders of parties and employees of Municipal Corporation involved in the solid waste management and sanitary work would go round Suryapet on Monday and then leave for Hyderabad. It would study the solid waste management practices and watch the water supply methods in Hyderabad to enable GMC to embark on 24-hour water supply soon, he added. The GMC will convene a meeting of all 300 garbage rickshaw-pullers in the city to bring awareness among them on segregation of garbage at the point of collection after the team returned from the tour.
Hospitals warned
The Mayor said majority of the hospitals, clinics and nursing homes were not cooperating with municipal authorities in proper disposal of infectious waste material. "The GMC served a notice on some of them a month ago but the practice had not changed," he lamented.
