TAMBARAM : More than 1,500 children from various orphanages took part in a function held on Saturday evening in connection with the Christmas. Organised by Taj Madras Flight Kitchen at Cantonment Marriage Hall in Pallavaram, the function saw an enthusiastic response as children from more than 25 orphanages took part. The children were given kit containing snacks and soft drinks, apart from masks and gifts. Children from orphanages also presented cultural programmes on a stage modelled to resemble a snowy winter. The programmes included group songs, dance and recitation of popular Christmas songs. Lionel Huggett, General Manager of Taj Madras Flight Kitchen, said they were organising this function for the third year in succession. In 2004, more than 600 children took part and last year, the number increased to 1,000. And this year, more than 1,500 children attended the function and took part in the festivities. Such annual programmes are being organised as part of their efforts to reach out to the community and also to bring in the festive spirit of Christmas.
