CHENNAI: For those setting up a home, or even considering giving their personal space a new look, Poompuhar's `Home decoratives' exhibition-cum-sale is an interesting place to shop. It showcases everything from furniture, showpieces, paintings, wall hangings to various other artefacts from all over the country. Intricately carved wooden furniture, swings, side tables, pooja mandapams and telephone stands were a fascinating blend of artistry and utility. The range of paintings include ceramic paintings from Haryana and paintings on silk from Rajasthan and Haryana. Paintings on palm leaves by craftsmen of Orissa were proof enough of the diversity in the art form. A good amount of work displayed was by tribal people from different regions. Other items available included carpets, physiotherapy apparatus in wood, jewellery bags, trays, candle stands and shell toys. A discount of 10 per cent is being offered on all items displayed at the exhibition, which is on till December 27 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Vijaya Mahal, Pondy Bazar, T.Nagar. Earlier, Chennai Mayor M. Subramanian inaugurated the exhibition.
