Tie-up Saudi varsity: The Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to initiate academic cooperation with King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia.

Cusat Vice-Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis and Head of Centre for Environment and Water Research Institute at King Fahad University Abdulazis M. Al-Suwailem held discussions on the possible areas in which both the institutions can launch joint programmes.

A press release said that academic tie-ups would be made in the areas of microbiology, phytoplankton studies and ocean food cycle. The Saudi university will also provide its expertise in setting up the proposed Department of Petroleum Engineering at Cochin University. Faculty members and students from Cochin University would be able to cooperate in projects taken up by the King Fahad University.

Seminar: The university will organise a seminar on `contribution of science and technology in the development of Kerala' here on December 19 and 20.

The event will be held on the Thrikkakara campus of the university.

The seminar will review the scientific achievements of the State during the last 50 years.
