This Day That Age
Lakshmi Bai Nagar will be the name, after the heroic Rani of Jhansi, of the temporary township that is being put up in Indore for the coming 62nd session of the Indian National Congress. According to the finalised programme of the AICC, the Congress Working Committee will meet on January 2. The session coincides with the centenary celebrations of the freedom movement of 1857. In honour of those who laid down their lives for the cause of the country, it has been decided to bring an "Immortal Torch" from Gwalior, where a century ago Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi sacrificed her life for the freedom of the people. The "Immortal Torch," after covering about 310 miles from Gwalior to Indore, will be brought on foot to the Congress Nagar.
