KANNUR: `Devakoothu' is a unique Theyyam performed by a woman at Thekkumpad in Mattul grama panchayat in the district. It is said to be the only one of its kind in the region. A book on this unique Theyyam will be released by Kerala State Folklore Akademi secretary A.K. Nambiar at a function at Thekkumpad on Tuesday. Two temples at Vadakkumpad were venues of ritual Theyyam performances representing various deities and goddesses, said P.T. Raveendran who authored the book `Devakoothu' at a press conference here. Unlike the costumes of the other Theyyam forms, those of the Devakoothu Theyyam were charming and attractive, he said.
