Corrections and Clarifications

The heading of a report (Tuticorin dateline) was "Hotel owner murdered" (Madurai, December 18, 2006, page 3). "Restaurant owner murdered" would have been better. "Hotel" is widely used in India referring to a place where one pays and eats. However, hotel is primarily a place where one pays to have a room to sleep in at first. An eatery (as mentioned in the report) may or may not be in a hotel.

The column "Briefly" (December 15, 2006, page 1) had the item "Balasingham dead" with a cross-reference to a full report on page 13. The first editions did not have the full report because it arrived late.

"India blanks Malaysia, finishes fifth" ("Sport", December 15, 2006) — on the hockey competition at the Asian Games, Doha — stated that Pakistan claimed the bronze, and a place in the 2008 Olympiad. The detail is right. Pakistan got in because China, as host, had already qualified.

A report "Jeev [Milkha Singh] in third spot" ("Sport", December 16, 2006) stated that Thaworn Wiratchant is determined to sign off the year as Asia's number one. The PTI report was incorrect. He was the number one last year. This year, irrespective of the result in the Volvo Masters of Asia golf tournament at Bangkok, Jeev Milkha Singh is already Asia's number one.
