NEW DELHI: The History Channel brings cinema lovers face to face with British film and stage actor Sean Bean as he plays a swashbuckling soldier during the Napoleonic wars in "Sharpe", a 14-episode adventure mini-series that began on Monday. Based on Bernard Cornwell's popular novels, the series has sparked interest among television watchers across the globe. Besides being a fast-moving and hard-hitting action-adventure series, it features Sean Bean in a pivotal role. Apart from acting in a number of television productions, Sean Bean is best known for his role as Boromir in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy and as Alec Trevelyan in the James Bond film "Golden Eye". Besides highlighting danger and romance in one of the bloodiest periods of history, "Sharpe" chronicles the adventures of Richard Sharpe, a lieutenant in the British military during the Napoleonic wars. Replete with evocatively filmed epic battle scenes, classic historical style drama and high stakes adventure, the series allows viewers to travel back to these tumultuous times. Commenting on the new series, Joy Bhattacharjya of the History Channel says: "The History Channel's endeavour has always been to put history in perspective in a manner that is entertaining and engaging. I am sure `Sharpe' will appeal to viewers across age groups as this thrilling adventure series is a magnificent blend of historical facts and captivating fiction."
