KARWAR: Raghaveshwara Bharati Swamiji of Ramchandrapura Math laid the foundation stone for "Amritadhara Goshala," a house for cattle, in an interior village of Hosad in Kumta taluk on Sunday. He stressed the need to protect and preserve local breed of cattle. He said the math had launched a movement to protect cows from being despatched to slaughterhouses. The math had opened a cattle bank to purchase such livestock at Rs. 3, 000 each. The swamiji said the math had purchased 10 acres of land in the village to grow fodder. He appealed to the Government to allot 50 acres of land to grow fodder. He requested the zilla panchayat to establish a drinking water scheme in the village. The swamiji said the math would open a research centre in the village to explore the possibility of using cow dung and urine as medicine. A veterinary hospital would also be opened soon. A local committee has been appointed to monitor these activities.
