Capstock-Varah CC posts win

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thanks to a fine all-round performance by Meenakumar (54 and 3 for 18), Capstock-Varah CC defeated Civil Services XI by a mammoth 153-run margin in the Canara Bank-TDCA `C' division cricket league here on Monday.

The scores: Capstock-Varah CC 330 for nine in 45 overs (Arun 84 not out, Meenakumar 54, Rajeev 50) bt Civil Services XI 147 in 30.4 overs.

Easy for BPCL-KRL `A'

At Kochi, BPCL-KRL `A' scored an easy 10-wicket win over Taj Residency in the EDCA `A' division cricket league at the KRL Oval, Ambalamugal, on Monday.

The scores: Taj Residency 35 in 15.5 overs (Prasanth Parameswaram seven for 20) lost to BPCL- KRL `A' 37 for no loss in 3.4 overs.

SAI in final

At Thrissur, holder SAI (Kollam) staved off a stiff challenge to beat host Thrissur 1-0 and enter the final of the 52nd State senior hockey championship at Ramavarmapuram on Monday.

The second semifinal between runner-up Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam remained unfinished due to bad light. The teams were locked 1-1 before the proceedings were interrupted. The tie will now be completed through penalty-strokes on Tuesday.

Tournament put off

At Thrissur, The State youth football championship for the Peerless Trophy, which was scheduled to get underway here on Monday, was postponed by a day due to the district hartal called by the BJP.
