HYDERABAD: Slogan-shouting Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) members staged a dharna in front of the chambers of Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy in the Assembly on Monday alleging raw deal for Telangana in the allotment of HUDCO funds for construction of cement concrete roads recently. When the Minister emerged from the room after sometime, there was an altercation between him and demonstrators led by TRS floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao.
Due share
Mr. Reddy confessed to them that a small portion of loan borrowed by the State Government from HUDCO was allocated to Telangana as the region had got a lion's share of funds for irrigation projects. Irked by the remark, the TRS members confronted the Minister, saying that Telangana had not got its due share of funds in irrigation sector. The dharna ended after the Minister promised that the overall funding for Telangana from various sources, including Panchayatraj, NABARD and HUDCO, was encouraging. He promised to release district-wise allocation of funds in three days. The MLAs also alleged that the Rs. 20 crores released to Telangana from HUDCO loan was earmarked for constituencies represented by Congress MLAs. Their constituencies were overlooked. On the other hand, the allocation for coastal districts was Rs. 70 crores.
