VADODARA: Andhra played the waiting game to the hilt, riding on L.N. Prasad Reddy's dogged resistance, to pile up 342 in the first innings of its Ranji Trophy Super League game against Baroda here on Monday. The opening batsman's vigil lasted a phenomenal 10 hours and 56 minutes over two days and he faced 474 balls to reach 148 before getting run out. The home team, 33 for no loss in reply at stumps on day two, was lucky to see Prasad's back at the Motibaug stadium. The opener, responding quickly to a call from D. Kalyan Krishna, covered the length of the pitch but was stunned to see the striker slipping and falling at the crease. Connor Williams broke the stumps at the non-striker's end with ease as Andhra's marathon man had advanced too far down.
Sheer timing
Prasad's patient, cautious batting beyond tea break on day two drove the Baroda bowlers and fielders to distraction. The knock was laced with 12 fours, all orthodox strokes, and he relied on sheer timing to send the ball to the ropes on a slow track. Prasad's batting overshadowed an equally determined bowling effort from left-arm spinner Rajesh Pawar (48-12-87-7) on a terribly hot day here. The scores: Andhra 1st innings: L.N.
