Now, Rahul Sanghvi gets the boot

NEW DELHI: Humiliation is in store for another senior Delhi player, Rahul Sanghvi. The left-arm spinner has been offered an option to call it a day or be prepared to be dropped.

Chairman of the selection committee Atul Wassan confirmed that Sanghvi was being given the option of an "honourable exit" on the lines of wicketkeeper-batsman Vijay Dahiya, who had announced his retirement on the eve of the ongoing Delhi-Karnataka Ranji Trophy elite group match.

Sanghvi obviously has little option than move out gracefully, even though the selectors had originally picked him for the forthcoming matches against Saurashtra and Andhra too. Amit Bhandari, who has sat out four matches, could be the next senior on the `hit list.'

Indications are that leg-spinner Abhishek Sharma is set to replace Sanghvi. Another change in the pipeline is all-rounder Kuldeep Rawat for injured pace bowler Kuunal Lall.

The unpleasant episode reflects on the state of affairs at the Delhi and District Cricket Association. — Special Correspondent
