NEW DELHI: The anti-reservation stir by doctors has intensified in the Capital with five medicos from the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) joining the hunger strike undertaken by doctors of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The condition of three resident doctors of AIIMS deteriorated on the fourth day of the relay hunger strike. Resident doctors of AIIMS have been on a hunger strike since Thursday night to protest against the passage of the Bill in Lok Sabha providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in Government-aided educational institutions. The AIIMS Resident Doctors Association spokesperson, Anil Sharma, said the three doctors whose condition had deteriorated have been kept under observation. He said while 15 doctors had started the relay hunger strike, five doctors have been joining the agitation every day.
Upper caste
Meanwhile, the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum of AIIMS, which is a group of pro-reservation doctors, has in a statement said that "the development of the past few days have exposed the true character of the anti-reservation forces." The forum has alleged that the "agitation is led by upper caste chauvinists and aided and abetted by the same political forces which passed the Bill by voice vote in Parliament."
