Bid to augment school libraries

Government to organise book fairs

`State Government to involve public participation in purchase of books'

BHOPAL: The world of books would be brought to children's doorsteps through a series of book fairs to be organised by the Rajya Shiksha Kendra in all 48 districts of Madhya Pradesh from January 26 onward.

Stating this, a spokesman of the State Government-run Rajya Shiksha Kendra said on Monday that the organisation had decided to decentralise purchase of books by involving public participation and passing on the initiative for selecting and purchasing books to each school's parents-teachers

association.

The main purpose of the book fairs, called "Pustakon ka sansaar apke dwar" (The world of

books at your doorstep) is to augment the school libraries within the ambit of the Annual Working Plan, the spokesman added.

The parents-teachers associations of over one lakh schools would be able to choose books and teaching material at these book fairs, the spokesman said, adding that special efforts were being made at the district administration level to ensure that the money earmarked for purchasing books reached the parents-teachers associations well in time.

Reputed publishers and booksellers from all over the country have been invited to join the third annual book fair.
