BELLARY: Home Minister M.P. Prakash, has expressed concern over the lack of health facilities in the district and has blamed Health Department officials for their indifference in this regard. Presiding over the first meeting of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) here on Sunday, Mr. Prakash said that the district was 17th as far as rural health facilities were concerned, despite the fact that a lot of money was being spent on infrastructure and the provision of hospital facilities.
`Improve situation'
He urged health officials to make all efforts to improve the situation. Mr. Prakash also took exception to the fact that the department staff were not residing in their quarters in rural areas. He instructed the officials to make periodic visits to the villages to identify the problem areas and take steps to set matters right. "All the department officials should strive hard to not only extend the best medical services but also ensure that the position of the district in the provision of health facilities improves considerably," he said. He asked the officials to make efforts to create awareness among the people on the Yeshasvini health insurance scheme and also to help the needy get the benefits of the scheme. Zilla panchayat president Durgamma, Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav and zilla panchayat chief executive officer C.M. Shirol were among those who attended the meeting.
