Congress governments insensitive, alleges Vijay Goel

Staff Reporter

"They have no rehabilitation plan for the Capital's traders"

NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister Vijay Goel on Monday accused the Congress regime at the Centre as well as in Delhi of being insensitive to the issue of sealing of shops and business establishments in the Capital.

Addressing a gathering of traders who came under the banner of "Delhi Vyapar Andolan" (DYA) to protest against the sealing, Mr. Goel ridiculed the Government for "readily playing host to lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators" but snatching away the means of livelihood of their own countrymen.

He alleged that the Government had so far not come up with any rehabilitation plan for the traders.

False assurances

Mr. Goel accused the Government of giving false assurances to the traders for around a year now and asked the traders not to expect anything from Congress leaders.

Demanding dismissal of the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Mr. Goel said there was no reason for them to stay as the Monitoring Committee set up by the Supreme Court held more powers than them.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Rambir Singh Bidhuri said the Congress party had become arrogant after winning elections twice in the Capital. The current sealing drive would lead to large-scale unemployment, he added.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sahib Singh said the struggle of the traders would succeed only if people removed the Congress party from power. Jai Bhagwan Goyal of Shiv Sena assured the DYA that they would support the traders' cause with all their might.

The DYA leaders said Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and his deputy Ajay Maken were not fit for their jobs. With only one day remaining for the winter session of Parliament to end, the Government had not yet come up with any amendment to give relief to the traders, they added.

BJP Councillor Vijender Gupta warned that if the Government went ahead with sealing of DDA shops in Rohini, the situation could turn violent and the Government would be responsible for it.
