KOLLAM: Walter C. Dudley, professor of Oceanography and Director of Kalakaua Marine Education Centre of the University of Hawaii, said here on Monday that relying too much on technology would not suffice to safeguard the lives of people residing in areas vulnerable to tsunami devastation. Dr. Dudley, who is here to document the accounts of people in Alapad who survived the December 26, 2004, tsunami attack, said more than hi-tech aspects, the people should be taught to prepare themselves to meet the disaster. Dr. Dudley, member of the Hawaii-based National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Programme Steering Committee, is accompanied by Hawaii State Civil Defense, Earthquake and Tsunami Programme Planner Jeanne Johnston. They will interview the tsunami survivors of Alapad.
