Staff Reporter

To be installed at the Polayathodu and Mulamkadakam crematoria

KOLLAM: A meeting of the city corporation council here on Monday decided to install gas-fired crematoria at the Polayathodu and Mulamkadakam public crematoria.

Mayor N. Padmalochanan said the work in this connection would be entrusted to the Government undertakings Raidco and Keltron.

Bio-waste treatment plants would be set up at Kadapakada and Polayathodu public markets and the slaughter house.

The one at the slaughter house was being set up by Anert with 90 per cent subsidy. Work on the plants at the markets would be entrusted to a private sector company, if Anert did not come forward to take it up.

To sanction funds

The meeting decided to sanction Rs. 5 lakh for landscaping of the Town Hall courtyard and Rs. 4.5 lakh for installing an electric curtain in the hall. Infrastructure will be improved in the slums.

T. Venugopal, councillor, alleged that a private company was buying up land in the Thirumullavaram beach area, and the corporation should intervene since the area had been marked for tourism development by the civic body.
