High Court dismisses PIL petition

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation petition seeking to restrain the Home Secretary and the Director-General of Police from permitting the Hindu Makkal Katchi and the Dravidar Kazhagam to hold demonstrations and agitations.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice K. Chandru, dismissing the PIL filed by V.R. Krishnakumar, said the court's time should not be wasted on such petitions. Making it clear that such prayers could not be ordered under Article 226 of the Constitution, it asked the petitioner to approach the Government for remedy.
