CHENNAI
: Women activists on Monday staged a demonstration demanding speedy introduction of the draft bill on sexual harassment at workplace in the parliament.
According to R. Geetha, secretary of the Unorganised Worker's Federation, the recent gruesome murders of the members of a Dalit family in Nagpur had echoes across the country. Secretary of Pennurimai Iyakkam P. Leelavathi condemned the incident and demanded a judicial probe.
She pointed out how FIRs were not filed in many cases of harassment at workplace in Tamil Nadu.
Ms. Geetha pointed out that economic disparity is at the root of many caste conflicts going on in the state. The activists mooted for land reforms as well while reiterated that the sexual harassment bill would go a long way in helping those in distress.
Members of Pennurimai Iyakkam, Unorganised Workers' Federation, Women's Struggle Committee, IWID and Republican Workers' Trade Union participated.
