TAMBARAM
: Urging State Government agencies to find a permanent solution to the problem caused by stagnation of sewage in their areas, residents of Pammal observed a fast on Monday.
The residents belonging to different localities pointed out to the problems caused by stagnation of sewage as there was no disposal point for it.
More than 100 residents took part in the daylong fast.
In the absence of a proper disposal point, sewage got stagnated in Eswaran Nagar, M. G. R. Nagar and other places, posing severe problems to residents in several houses. Even today, sewage was stagnating in some areas, the residents said.
Pointing out that the permanent solution was construction of drains around the Tirupananthaal Lake, the residents urged the Pammal Municipality and the State Government to execute the project without any further delay.
All legal obstacles for construction of these drains should be sorted out and priority should be given to solving problems faced by the people, they said, adding that the sanitation and hygiene were of prime importance.
Drains to transport sewage could be built around the lake without damaging the bunds and without causing even the slightest of pollution to water stored in the lake, the residents pointed out.
