Global Citizens meet for college students

Aspects of being a global citizen discussed

CHENNAI: The AIESEC, an international platform for young people, Chennai chapter, organised a `Global Citizens' meet here on Saturday.

The organisation aims to instil leadership among the youth and encourage them appreciate other cultures. Around 150 students from 20 colleges in the city attended the meet and listened to industry leaders and social activists talk about various aspects of being a global citizen. They also presented papers on the theme `Money and Harmony', outlining a business plan for a creative and socially responsible enterprise.

Linda Lucy, a psychiatrist from America; Sumathi Narayan, CEO, CCMC; and C.S. Ramachandran, former Rotary District Governor, participated in a panel discussion on the same theme.

Chandar Sundaram, Academic Lead, Microsoft India, discussed the role of quality education in shaping the young people of a country. M. B. Nirmal, founder-head, Exnora International (India), talked about the effects of environmental degradation on economic growth.

Ranjini Manian, CEO, Global Adjustments, talked about global etiquette and cross-cultural diversity. Karthi P. Chidambaram, Managing Director, Chess Management Services, urged young people to participate in government and politics. Jayanthi Natarajan, Congress leader, told students what they could do to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and the stigma attached to it.
