CHENNAI: The Madras Medical Mission Hospital, which specialises in cardio vascular health, plans to set up a multi-speciality hospital and a nursing college in the city. The 200-bed hospital will be built with a first phase investment of Rs. 100 crore. The MMM hospital, which is commemorating its silver jubilee year, already has the Institute of Reproductive Medicine and Women's Health and Institute for Liver and Digestive Diseases in the city. In 2002, the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, comprising a medical college, nursing college and a 500-bed multi-speciality hospital was set up. The silver jubilee celebrations will highlight the need for not-for-profit healthcare institutions through an international conference with participants from 25 countries. Kenneth Kaunda, first President of the Republic of Zambia; Per-Gunnar Svensson, secretary general of International Hospital Federation in France, and Pamela Garside, chairman of the International Health Summit at U.S. will be among the participants. The hospital has instituted the `MMM Healthcare Excellence Award 2007' in recognition of hospitals in the not-for-profit sector in Asia. The award, comprising a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, would be announced on January 12 at the conference.
