Staff Reporter
Kochi: P.B. Sahasranaman, Advocate Commissioner appointed by the Kerala High Court to inspect removal of garbage here, has made suggestions to improve waste management in the city. In a report submitted to the court in connection with a case relating to garbage removal, he suggests that work on the waste disposal plant at Brahamapuram be expedited. Another suggestion is that garbage bins be cleared within a time limit daily. People should be allowed to dump waste only within an hour or two before that deadline. Health inspectors shall be deputed to oversee dumping of waste in the bins and its removal. The deadline, name of the health inspector and his phone number shall be notified. The corporation shall run a complaint redressing cell.
CPI(M) intervenes
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) district leadership is understood to have sought the intervention of the Chief Minister and some Ministers on Sunday for solving the crisis in disposal of garbage. The civic administrators are hopeful of solving the issue within two days, Deputy Mayor C.K. Manisankar said. The civic authorities, with the support of the district administration, are understood to have reached an informal understanding with the Navy to use its land for dumping garbage for two days when the President is here.
