Four-year-old girl crushed to death

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: A four-year-old girl was crushed to death by a water tanker in Hongasandra, near Begur on Monday. Lakshman of Citizens Welfare Association, who was an eyewitness to the accident, said that this was not an one-off incident. Bommanahalli, Hongasandra and surrounding areas do not get regular water supply.

"The private water suppliers have started using this to their advantage. They are like a mafia here," he said.

Eyewitness account

Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that Aishwarya, who was crushed to death, was standing outside her house.

They said that water tanker drivers drove recklessly and many accidents had occurred in the area because of that. Mr. Lakshman alleged that 90 per cent of the tanker drivers neither had valid documents nor did they possess a driving license.

Aishwarya was the daughter of daily wage workers.

"The child was standing by the side of the road when the tanker owned by Sri Renuka Yellamma Neeru Sarabaraju hit her," they said.

Driver flees

The child was killed on the spot. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The Madiwala Traffic police have registered a case. A search is on for the driver.
