NEW DELHI : United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi and several Union Ministers paid rich tributes to Congress leader P. M. Sayeed at a function to mark his first death anniversary here on Monday. Sayeed, who was Union Power Minister in the present dispensation, died of a heart attack in Seoul last year. Ms. Gandhi described him as an "ideal" political leader who left his imprint on both the Congress and Parliament. "He worked with utmost dedication throughout his political career. A very secular and friendly man, he will be missed by all." Recounting her experience with Sayeed, she said: "When I got elected to the Lok Sabha and became the Leader of Opposition, I faced difficulties in a few things. He counselled me on those issues. I can never forget his advice." Union Minister of Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar said Sayeed was a "compassionate and multifaceted" personality who always worked for the uplift of the poor.Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said Sayeed was a man of "unimpeachable integrity and political honesty."
