TIRUCHI: The images of about 80 per cent of voters of the State have been included in the electoral rolls so far. The Chief Election Commissioner would review the progress of the preparation of the photo electoral rolls at a meeting at Chennai on December 23, the Chief Electoral Officer, Naresh Gupta, said here on Monday. The images of nearly 70 per cent of voters in Tamil Nadu, who had been issued Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), were merged with the electoral rolls. An average of about 11 per cent of the left over voters, whose images were not available, have been covered under the current exercise. The draft photo electoral rolls will be ready by the end of February, Mr. Gupta said after reviewing the progress of the preparation of photo electoral rolls with the Collectors of Tiruchi, Perambalur, Karur, Dindigul, Villupuram and Cuddalore here. Earlier in the day, he held a review meeting at Thanjavur with the Collectors of Thanjavur and Pudukottai. Answering a query, Mr.Gupta said that residual voters who were photographed now would be issued EPIC cards in due course. In Tiruchi district, nearly 14 per cent of them had been photographed. Out of the total 16.67 lakh voters in the district, about 2.32 lakh residual voters were yet to be covered. Notices will be issued to those who had shifted their residences, before their names were deleted from the rolls.
Delimitation
Mr. Gupta also disclosed that the Delimitation Commission would hold a meeting with the Associate Members from Tamil Nadu at New Delhi on December 28 and 29, to hear their suggestions and views for evolving a working plan on the delimitation of constituencies. Five Members of Parliament and five Members of the Legislative Assembly from Tamil Nadu were associate members of the Commission. Public sittings would be held subsequently to elicit the views of the public.
