Speed breaker

A speed breaker is a must in all the four directions near Tiruchi Junction (outer) Roundana. People cross the road with great difficulty. Similarly in North Kattur (near Tiruverumbur), a speed breaker is required in both the directions near the city bus stop.

Medical allowance

From the Central Government, pensioner get Rs.100 a month as medical allowance. In case they are indisposed while undergoing treatment, they have to pay a minimum of Rs.30 to Rs.50 for consultation itself. In addition to this, they have to buy the prescribed medicine. If the pensioner is a diabetic, every month he has to spend a considerable amount for medicine. Most of the pensioners are not healthy and they are under treatment for one or the other problems. Hence it is absolutely mandatory to increase the medical allowance to Rs.500 every month, if not at least Rs.300. Will the Central Government implement this at the time of VI pay commission?

Eviction drive

Saathaara Veedhi, Srirangam is basically a residential area dominated by flower merchants. People could heave a sigh of relief when encroachments by these merchants on both sides of the road were removed by Corporation authorities recently. Unfortunately, the situation is back to square one within a short time. It is the umpteenth time that such eviction exercise was carried out. It appears that this malady can never be rectified. The only alternative is to shift the entire flower bazaar to the partially vacant and abandoned market complex of the Corporation in front of the Taluk Office.

Traffic bottleneck

Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Savithri Vidhyasala High School, Kamakoti School and Government Elementary School are situated on Sankaran Pillai Road. In the morning and evening, hundreds of students pass through this road; vans, cars, autorickshaws, cyclerickshaws and two wheelers use this stretch to drop students. After dropping, the vehicles turn and return by the same road. This results in a traffic bottleneck on the road and also opposite Periyasamy Towers. If the vehicles return via Butterworth Road, traffic congestion will ease. A traffic constable can be posted here in the morning from 8.30 to 10 a.m. and in the evening from 4 to 5p.m.

Traps on pavement

A road divider has been fixed at Puthur High Road, opposite Government Hospital. Because of this, the width of the road has been reduced and to increase it, the Corporation has reduced the platform width. While laying the platform, newly fabricated cement slabs were used to cover the gutter. Within few months, these slabs have given way and holes formed at many places. Pedestrian's legs can easily get trapped and fractured at these holes. The Corporation should review periodically the project they had implemented. Those who carried out this job must be taken to task. If necessary, they must be blacklisted. Will the Corporation take steps to rectify these traps on pavement?

Bus shelters

The Tiruchi corporation has erected bus shelters in many bus stops with the help of sponsors. The spic and span looking bus shelters erected in various bus stops have become an added attraction and give a facelift to the city. But the two bus stops, Ranjithapuram and Subramaniyapuram on Thanjavur Road are without such bus shelters. As a result, the public are put to hardship whether it rains or shines. Considering the plight of the hapless public, the Corporation Commissioner and the Mayor should knock at the doors of the sponsors and see that bus shelters are put on these two bus stops.
