This Day That Age
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on December 18 for the first time after becoming Railway Minister, Mr. Jagjivan Ram, appealed for more money to attain the targets laid down for the Railways in the Second Five-Year Plan. The Railway Minister, who was replying to the debate on supplementary demands for grants to his Ministry, promised Railway employees, "I will see that some sort of pension scheme is introduced at the earliest possible opportunity." To the present employees, option might be given to choose either the provident fund scheme or the pension scheme, but in the case of new entrants, the pension scheme might be made applicable automatically.
