TTD plans mass marriages

At least 2,000 marriages planned without any upper limit


  • No objection certificate by parents to be handed over by January 31, 2007
  • The bride will get a golden mangalasutram and a pair of toe rings

    VIJAYAWADA : Mass marriages planned by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in all districts on February 22, 2007 under a new scheme called `Kalyanamastu' will be performed at 17 places in Krishna district.

    While TTD's own kalyana mandapams (marriage halls) are available in 10 places, private venues will be used in the remaining places to perform the marriages, according to TTD board member Chadalavada Sudha.

    Legal age

    Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr. Sudha said applications along with self-declaration affidavit and certificate of no objection by parents will have to be handed over at the marriage venue by January 31, 2007. Electoral photo identity card, ration card or any other photo ID card would be required for identification . While the bridegroom would have to be of 21 years old, bride should have completed 18 years.

    She said TTD officials in Krishna district were planning to perform at least 2,000 marriages on the day, with no upper limit. Those who wish to register can contact Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad coordinator M.S.K. Kumar on 9441471682 or programme assistant C.V.K. Prasad on 9866510829 for guidance .

    The bride would get a golden mangalasutram and a pair of toe rings, while the couple would get a pair of new clothes and material necessary for a Hindu marriage. TTD authorities would also be providing free lunch to 22 guests on behalf of each couple.
